2014 Eco Diesel Buy Back?

Has anyone been successful in getting Jeep to buy back their 2014 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel? I think I've reached my limit. We've been into the shop probably a dozen times now all for the DEF system. I have more cases open with Jeep corporate than I can count. The last 2 times were for smoke coming out of the car. Both times they sent us home saying they couldn't find anything wrong even though we had a video showing the smoke. Today the car started smoking again so we just drove straight to the dealership so we could fill their drop off area with smoke coming out of a nice new car while they finally accepted that something was wrong. Surprise surprise, it's coming from the DEF system. They obviously don't know how to fix these problems and they've been there since day 1. Before I lawyer up I'd like to know, though - has anyone actually completed a buy back? Did you have a lawyer or work directly with Jeep to resolve it?

Been having issues myself recently. Told Jeep 2 weeks ago I wanted a buy back. They took over a week to respond and basically said because I am not covered under the state Lemon Law, they won't do a buyback. You may want to look at your state's qualifications to determine if you are eligible. That may get them to approve it without needing a lawyer. Cheaper for them that way I'd imagine. I'd just threaten them with a Lemon Law filing if you think you qualify and see how fast they respond. If they say no and you're eligible under the rules, get a lawyer.
I hate seeing these posts because I think most of it can be traced to bad dealership service. Or maybe I'm just lucky. My 2014 GC diesel has 30K and is 18 months old. Only issue has been the CAT replacement when we got the dashboard message. The dealer tried the first step (software mod). After a few days the message came back so they replaced the CAT. Took a couple of hours. We drive it pretty hard, towing my work trailer and camper. Love this beast. Awesome fuel mileage and extremely comfortable. When I bring it in for the oil change the shop checks for and installs any software updates, so actually, the vehicle is noticeably better now in terms of mpg and tranny shifting than when we first bought it. I use 2 shops, the jeep dealer in Aurora Colorado (Auto Nation), and Croton Jeep in Croton NY. Both get high marks.
Have been trying to get them to buy it back for nearly 4 months due to the same issues that most owners are having. Had to get an attorney because the dealership wouldn't even attempt to replace a single part. My wife loved the car, and I've always been a customer to Chrysler, but after these issues and the manner Chrysler and their dealerships dealt with these issues I will never buy another Chrysler product.
I have a 2014 GC and the DEF warning lights lit up at 24k miles. It has been at the dealership for 3 weeks and they haven't even looked at it!!!! Thinking it may be time for a buy back or legal action. Thoughts?

Have these issues been addressed yet. I am or was going to, pick up a trade in limited that has a very clear CarFax. No DEF issues reported.

To answer your question... No. Chrysler and Jeep and refusing to touch my vehicle until I pay out of pocket and even went as far to VOID my entire warranty on the vehicle. Not just the emissions system warranty.

From what I can tell, these Jeeps are hit or miss. Despite it being a beautiful machine, the manufacturer won't admit their mistakes. I will say that when it ran, it ran very well(even if the Check Engine light was on constantly almost the entire life so far). However, It hasn't been running for over 4 months.

I was hoping that we got a bad apple, but everyday it seems that more people are having the same issues as us.

yes. but make sure you have a competent dealer. From what I'm hearing people are being abused by rotten dealerships. Mine have been great and I absolutely love this vehicle. Best I've ever owned by far. 31K, no problems. 1 warranty CAT replacement took 2 hours. I went to a diner and it was done. Don't understand these reports I'm hearing of dealers holding cars for 3 weeks without looking at them. After 8 hours I'd been breathing fire down the service managers neck.

Voided your warranty?? It's a contract, they can't do that. Call a lawyer and go after that dealer big time

I've been in contact with an attorney. Hoping for the best with that. However, it's actually the factory warranty they voided. I've checked with Chrysler twice thinking that the first time i was informed of it was a mistake. Turns out it wasn't.

I spent over a month with a Case Manager from Chrysler trying to get my issues resolved to be told "too bad" and they weren't going to cover it by an adjuster from Chrysler.

You are right about the dealerships being the main issue. I had to take the Jeep to several dealerships to try and get my Check Engine light resolved, but none of them could get it to go off. If I remember correctly, it was throwing a code that they didn't know the meaning of. The remedy I was given was to drive it and if it started flashing, then to bring it back. After that came my other issues.

And trust me, I have given the dealership hell and they just play the "it's Chrysler's fault we aren't fixing your vehicle" card.
unbelievable! get that lawyer after them. it's the only language they understand.

This is what I find particularly galling. Any dealer worth it's salt would be on the horn to the mother ship to figure out a problem. I can't imagine a dealer saying, 'we can't figure it out, get out of here'. The first time I had to do a timing belt change on my 06 Liberty CRD, my shop had never done one. They got the tools and figured it out. Took them much longer than the 5 hours book charge so I'm sure they lost money. By the time I did my 2nd belt they had it down. Except for the occasional lemon, most of the issues I'm seeing posted about the GC diesel are related to lousy dealer service.
Good luck with your fight!

Yes- it looks like you should spend more time 'researching the dealer' vs the vehicle. I'm convinced it's the 'take the money and run' ones that are ruining the GC diesels reputation. Just like GM ruined diesels in general when they tried to 'convert a gas engine into one' in the early 80's..

You both are more than likely correct on this. Like I said, the GC is a great vehicle. It's Chrysler/Jeep and the dealership I am disappointed in. There are bound to be hiccups in a first year/model, but they have to stand behind their product. They wouldn't even do a CAT replacement, which seems to be a fix for some people...

In my opinion, if my Jeep is constantly having issues that Chrysler/Jeep won't fix, then I deserve my money back. These things shouldn't even be questioned and especially not in the manner they go about it. I am tempted to trade in my 2014 Ram because I am worried I will run into these problems if I ever need to have something fixed on it!

I did research the dealership......... and I rejected three before settling with the one I am using. Now the third winter is a few months away and I feel confident about my Jeep. I am considering purchasing a utility trailer to compensate for the fact that its not a pickup truck. And a winch for the front. I have no interest in class action or buy backs..... I just want my forum back so I can enjoy gainful dialog with those of us who are satisfied with what we have. Until then those of you who are not are just singing to a choir that has commandeered our church. And I am not convinced that there are that many of you ..... or at least not more than any other complex vehicle on the market. But I am patient and have been on this forum more than two years.... this shall pass and hopefully the forum won't fade away

They would have to have a specific reason to VOID your warranty. I don't believe you mentioned that reason.

You would have had to have something aftermarket,a modification, or something else on the car that has been determined as the verifiable issue. They cannot just say "tough" and VOID your warranty there is a law against that called the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act.

Federal law mandates the warranties on emission systems and some states like CA tack on some extras that MUST be covered.

Does sound like it is lawyer time but it also helps to know your rights also. Read up on the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, the federal emissions/ you state emissions warranties, and your State's lemon law. Always remember they count on you knowing nothing...
Still getting the run-around with my JGC... Going on the 4th week at the dealership and no one has even looked at it!
Anyone have any luck with a good dealer in Houston, TX?
I elevated my star case as high as I could, and was denied a replacement. Additionally, my case manager is stammering on an extended warranty. I'm at 24k and looking at my trade-in options.
