Any thoughts or insight on reliability of a 2018 diesel after all the issues with the diesel emission recall for the 14 through the 16's?

I'd say they are likely more reliable. Most of the issues in the 14-16's were caused by the horrible emissions controls, especially the EGR routing and problems that were caused be the Soot buildup. The 18's route the EGR gas after the Catalytic converter, so the exhaust gas that is being plumbed back into the intake manifold is much cleaner than that of the old design.
