Check Engine - DEF problems

Well friends I've been holding off on updates. Jeep Care center abandoned me and the 3 agent and 2nd manger had moved own so my case got dropped into yet another either, this was back in February. Needless to say I finally had to cut my losses while the GC was still running "OK" and just to have a clear conscience brought it to Carmax to vs. just unloading it on some poor unsuspecting buyer. They verified it was "OK" dinged me for having had the transmission already replaced but still made a very fair offer. I moved on vowing never to buy another Chrysler vehicle and now 4500 miles into a BMW X5d, what a difference, I kid you not when I say you cannot tell it is a diesel, the only time you smell anything remotely like it is when you are at the pump filling it up.

Keep up the good fight but don't have much faith in Chrysler and the STAR repair folks at "headquarters" it's clearly a duct-tape-and-bubblegum approach and no one should be treated like most are here... truly sad. Good luck friends and stay safe.

Likewise mine came with a blue cap although there was barely any DEF in it when I purchased it. I'm guessing the dealership should have topped it off before we picked it up -- it would make sense that Jeep would want to wait until vehicle goes into full use so DEF doesn't become dried and clogging system.

I think, from what I've read, all should come with the blue DEF cap. -- I think some in CS may be getting confused with the fuel not having a cap as DEF fluid isn't filled with a hard metal hose like fuel is. Just a thought.

Has anyone been successful at getting Jeep to buyback their Grand Cherokee due to the SCR/DEF issues? Mine is in the shop for the 4th time and is now (finally) awaiting a new SCR with no ETA. I'm trying to figure out how i should proceed at this point.

Hey @2014ECODiesel - it's like pushing a wet noodle up a very very large hill. You call the 800# which will take your info and pass you along to a Jeep (Chrysler) Resolution team member. All they will do is call the dealership your getting serviced from to "resolve" the issue and usually request you get a rental. Our JGC Summit has been in 14 times, new transmission pump valve box, after that complete transmission replacement, 4 transmission re-trainings, Replaced a crack fuel line (after 10th visit and 8K miles it was finally discovered).

My advice, if you are still in the milage and time range, grab the blue and white booklet that should be with your owners manual. It describes all the different states lemon laws. If your covered still, fill out the little card and send it in to start arbitration. You can also go here: www.ncdsusa.org and you can start filing the forms for arbitration.

I've wasted weeks possibly months of my life starting in July 2014, battling with the Chrysler Resolution team and the local dealership, my advise skip that void of uselessness and go straight to a 3rd party arbitration and secure a Lemon Law attorney.

Here is the number for the Resolution team should you want to just explore, but I warn you, they are useless and will only insult you with delay tactics and unresponsiveness. As of this writing one supervisor name I have is Rosa, I'd ask for her right away if you feel your not making progress with whomever they assign to your case. Best of luck!
