Check Engine - DEF problems

CEL came on before the first oil change! I've asked about bad cat, DEF injector crystals, and everything else I've read on this forum---very excellent by the way, well done to everyone---the OBD is throwing conflicting codes of "too rich" and "too lean." So now they're going to put a "jumper harness" to "hook up with the module." This is coming via my wife whose Head is already spinning cuz her $40,000+ car is broken--already. Has anyone heard of this " jumper harness" business? Sounds hinkey to me...and a temporary fix to get us out of their faces. They gave started a STAR case... What does that mean? I've worked on my trucks for years--417,000 on my personal PowerStroke, but I'm out of my element here.

Update 1551---PCM software was corrupt...get to pick it up today....will keep y'all in the loop.

latest update since CEL was addressed and most recent updates completed. New service department replace cat converter.
We just returned from an 1800 mile trip, pulling our 6,000 RV/trailer.
NO cel!!!
We also averaged 15 mpg when pulling and exceeded 29 mpg for 200 miles when not pulling last week.
Love the new Bluetooth scanner and iPhone app.
Is there an iPhone OBD scanner app? Please see note below.

After round trip Dallas to Austin, the CIL came on... agian....took it to a Dallas dealer, got the 12/19 flash update.....CIL came on 2 hrs after picking it up.....new cat orderd! Hopefully this will be, as believed, THE fix...will keep y'all posted...kudos to the Dallas guys for pulling the trigger rather than jack around for another round of flashes...I truely believe this engine is a beast...Banks has purchased a bunch of them to design their answer to the Army's RFP for the Humvee replacement...best of all is I'm looking forward to the Banks line of mod's once the GC is out of warranty and can strip all this EPA crap off...

AggiePate,

Download the Texas Lemon Law. It has a log where you put dates, problems, etc. and lines out the process. My son is in Dallas with the same issue ETA on his cat is next week. The morons ordered the wrong one when he was to have gotten it replaced this past Monday. I don't guess it matters where you are, but the Dallas boys were at least quicker to pull the trigger on the cat being the issue. The brainiacs in Austin were in a fog.

Howdy Pat,
I feel your pain...my wife get apoplectic at the mention of the topic of CEL on the JGC...we're "on the list" for a new cat....I'd like to hear from folks who did (finally) get the new cat and have put some serious miles on it and if that solved the problem.

Would've thought given the ill will being generated over this issue, Jeep would pull the new cats off the assembly line and simply delay delivery of '15's. Of course they may just figure screw it, the damage has been done, so "let them eat cake (or something else a bit less savory)."

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I'm hopeful the cat does the trick. I banking (no pun intended) on knowing that Gail Banks purchased a boat load of these engines to model their RFP response to the Army's utility vehicle replacement program and will, no doubt come up with a DPF delete kit for the civilian market that will truly make this platform the beast it's capable of being....we'll see

Howdy Eaglescout!
My Eagle Scout is getting the cat put on my wife's JGC today also.....I too will update here later...it's being done in Dallas and driven to Round Rock tonight...I DARE the CEL to come on. My buddy's dodge (yes....small case "d") ram diesel is being bought back by the stealership for $50+K plus penalty...his last recall was for the ENTIRE wiring harnes to be replaced..not just the engine....we'll see.
