DEF Tank Sensor Not Working

3469 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Real_2015
Bought 2015 GC Summit (used) but here in Canada I made sure to check on the CarFax report that regular maintenance was done. Jeep is in amazing shape but recently the Check Engine light came on. Brought it into the shop and they mentioned that it was the DEF Tank sensor.

They claim that the whole tank needs to be replaced as they can't buy just the sensor? (repair would cost over $5k Canadian or I can just keep manually filling it up every 2 months or so.

Anyone have any advice on whether or not the sensor can be replaced or fixed at a much lower cost?

Had the same thing happen to the same vehicle. Right after adding DEF, the gauge didnt go up and then a little later got a CEL. Got the same dealer diagnosis. Kept driving it, noting the mileage for DEF purposes, and eventually the gauge/sensor started working again.

So. You might let it go for a bit and see what happens.

Same thing happened to mine. I can confirm (at least my dealer told me) that yes, the whole shebang needs to be replaced. They covered it under the extended warranty you get for doing the AEM install. Said it was a ~$3000(USD) repair. Seems ridiculous but i wasn't paying so i didn't really care. If your dealer does not cover it under the extended warranty then i would not fix it...its not worth it. Just add more DEF every 8K miles or so.

Thanks for the input! Not happy that this has happened to someone else but glad to know it wasn't a sleezy service manager trying to scam me. I just always keep a spare jug of DEF fluid in the back..you never know!

Cheers!
