Before I actually purchase a diesel grand cherokee I am trying to understand what I am getting into.

I understand that a clogged DPF needing replacement will be very expensive. Does anyone know the actual cost of replacement? I have heard numbers like 8000.00

I also heard that cleaning is possible for around 1400.00

also since I do mostly city driving how long will it be before this device needs to be replaced?

Yes- I confirm this from talking to the service manager when I brought mine in for 'shifter recall' -- the problem they see crop up in diesel Rams sold to construction companies come from 'excessive idling' - they need driven!

New to site little background about me. Proud owner 2015 JGC ecodeisel 48400 is the mileage. I added a cold air intake from K&N. Motor runs great. Oil changes every 5000 to 7000. Back at the end of august the regen light came on. I drove it about a couple of days the hole time thinking i need to get out and take it for a cruse. I work 5 miles from home and do alot of driving around town and then getting on and off I-10. But anyways next thing i know i was stuck in limp mode max 38 mph. Found a place that was willing to try and force a regen even though it was not the wyco or whatever scanner. He used a snapon. And it worked. Drove for about 2 weeks changed the oil and then all of the sudden in it again. Had the same dude do it again and it worked again as it should. Since then i have had 2 normal regens. I have found that if i just go for a cruse down the interstate every cou ple weeks for 40 minutes or so. I have no trouble what so ever. So when it tells you to do one dont take it lightly just do it. But i am now debating on tuning it. Where i live ppei is in the same town so the turn around would be 3 days.
