Hi everyone! Looking at getting into a Grand Cherokee with the ecodiesel. I like the idea of a midsize suv with decent fuel economy and the ability to tow a boat if the time comes. Most use will be commuting to work.
My question is how reliable are they? I’ve been trying to get a feel for how people like them and have seen both ways. Horrible experience with emissions equipment. Or nearly 30mpg if driven carefully online near me color copies.
Is getting a Jeep certified a good way to go for an insurance blanket on a vehicle that is probably expensive to fix?
Should I just get the gas v6?
Thanks!

I had a 2014 Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel. The keyword is ”had”.

I love diesels - I’d had several VW diesel cars in the past. When it was working fine, I loved the Jeep also. But I had a lot of repairs done to it - almost all involving the emission system, both before and after the AEM. Judging by posts on here, the problems have continues. I can’t speak to later years, but I can tell you the 2014 I had never went more than about 6-9 months without the check engine light coming on for some reason.

I traded it last fall for a 2020 Grand Cherokee with the V8 gas engine. Much less gas mileage (though on the highway it isn’t too bad) but much easier to maintain.
