Any thoughts on extended warranties? I am very close to buying/ordering a '15 GC with a diesel; just trying to decide between Overland and Summit. So my question is do GC owners feel it is a good idea to purchase an extended warranty? For what it's worth I expect to keep it until probably around 150k miles with a fair amount of highway miles the majority a mix of city, commuting and rush hour traffic, mix in a little towing.

Yes- you can 'double the bumper to bumper' for around $1500 bucks. ONE NOTE: THAT PRICE IS ALSO "NEGOTIABLE" - so make sure you get a couple hundred knocked off of it after you make your deal. If they 'say not' start to walk out of dealership and see what happens ;)

I purchased the extended on my JGC. For the last several cars that I have purchased, different makes & models, I have uniformly gone with the extended except for my Silverado and will probably do so, soon, with it. With the complexity of newer vehicles, I tend to want to err on over coverage. So far, I think the manufacturer comes out ahead, but not by much.

Thanks for the responses. I have done a little research and yes the extended warranties are a huge profit center for dealerships. A warranty that they sell for (approx.) $2,000 has a cost to the dealer of about $400. That is a huge profit margin for something that exists only on a computer!

I just bought the 7/160kms (7/100mile U.S.) I did shop here in Toronto. The best price I could find was $4,000 (around $3,300 U.S.) I kept my last Town & Country van over 10 years and had that warranty. It paid off in the length of ownership. I intend to keep this one as long. It's insurance for me. If it ends up in the shop for any type of warranty repair, they cover the rental. Seeing all the other horrible experiences here I'm going to need it. I'm hoping by 2015 models they fixed the issues. This car was built January 23. No problems yet other than the "Ecodiesel" badge lettering is oxidized under the plastic encapsulation. They've ordered another one.

For those considering extended warranties, also consider prepaid oil/filter changes. I purchased an extended warranty with my new 2014 GC EcoDiesel, along with a 60 month oil/filter change package. The oil and filter change package was added for around $300 plus. Well worth the money. And the dealer's are only to happy to discuss (and negotiate the cost) with all new Jeep owners.

[email protected] quoted me $1960 for a Chrysler Factory Extended Warranty, 8yr/120k mile MOPAR Max Care on a new 2015 4x4 Diesel JGC Overland.
[email protected] quoted me $2130 for a Chrysler Factory Extended Warranty, 8yr/120k mile MOPAR Max Care on a new 2015 4x4 Diesel JGC Summit. Lifetime was not available for diesel models. Also the only deductible option available for the 8yr/120K option was $100.

The quote from The Zeigler Group (chryslerfactoryplans.com) was $2220. Other dealerships quoted in the ~$2350 price range. I believe dealer cost is ~$2020 - ~$2050 if the various salespeople were being honest.

I cannot speak to the value of the plan as fortunately I have not yet needed to make a repair/claim.
