I have a 2014 GC diesel with about 46000 miles on it. Every once in a while, I get a hard downshift (usually from 2 to 1) - especially if either the engine is still cold, or if I had been accelerating it pretty hard and then stopped pretty quickly. It's pretty rare, but I can't say it never happens. There was a software flash a few years ago that made it shift easier, but if you are test driving a Jeep with only 18 miles on it, I think it's probably new enough that it should have that already in it.
