Hello all,

I'm the newest addition to the diesel Jeep world, yesterday I bought a 2007 Grand Cherokee CRD with the Mercedes 3.0 engine. I already have a Jetta TDI and 7.3L diesel F250 and do most of my own maintenance... I was really stoked about the jeep until I looked closer at that Mercedes engine, there is zero room in there to even change a serpentine belt! The few questions I have are:
1: Oil, the owners manual is very specific on 5W30 (this rules out the 15W40 I use on the Jetta and Ford). What brand do you use? Does this conform to the requirements in the manual? Finding diesel 5W30 is no easy task, what company/store do you buy it through?
2: Timing belt: the Jetta is very specific on intervals the timing belt needs to be changed. I got a carfax (waste of money in my opinion) and the service section wasn't very specific. It has 160,000 miles on it now. I know on the Jetta it's every 75,000. Is the CRD the same?
3: Tranny fluid: This might be a stupid question but for some reason mine doesn't have a dip stick. I've never seen a truck or SUV that didn't have one. I found where it's suppose to be, but the cap says "only to be serviced by dealer," of course I promptly removed it and no dipstick...

I'm sure I'll have more questions but these are the ones I had on my mind. Any other Mercedes experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recently sold my 2007 CRD after 9 years of trouble free motoring.
No timing belt in the Merc om642 engine only a timing chain that should last the life of the engine so no need to worry about that.
No dipstick on this engine either , you will have to purchase a dipstick that you temporarily fit to read the fluid quantity BUT the level is influenced but the tranny temperature so you will need a means to measure fluid temperature (that why the cap reads dealer only).
I use a Dashawk OBD reader to read trans temp and at 140 deg F the dipstick should read 68mm when tranny in drive.
I used Mobil 1 esp 5W30 for 9 years which conforms to Merc spec which is readily available here in the U.K.

I've been running a 2008 Jeep GC CRD for about 6 years. Pretty well trouble free once the original swirl motor was replaced. I strongly suggest researching the delete process for this item.
