I've enjoyed my JGC for over 200k miles. Just noticed the distinct odor of coolant from under the hood. Had the dealer pressure test it and found that the oil cooler is the culprit. Not seeing any oil in the engine, but there is plenty of sludge in the coolant reservoir. Does anyone have experience with having the oil cooler replaced and engine flushed? Looking for expectations and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I have heard and read it’s not that bad of a fix. It’s a common problem with these ecodiesels. Have also seen mod kits to do away with it and use an external oil cooler. Have studied up on it a little for when mine craps the bed.

I appreciate the note. The amount of sludge in my coolant reservoir is incredible. The OEM oil coolers are on back-order, making me have to rent a vehicle while I wait. It still runs like a champ. No codes, lights flashing, or temp issues - just a slight odor and a bucket of sludge that will have to be flushed out. Thanks.

I have a 2006 Cherokee CRD with the 2.8 turbo. Lots of oil in the coolant. No power loss or overheating. Have been told the oil cooler is my problem. Just can't find it.!! Can anyone provide any information?

The problem is a crack inside the oil cooler. My extended warranty covered a complete new diesel (short block). Jeep did not recommend flushing the engine of oil. Also new radiator. There were metal filings in the bottom of the engine.
Oil in the coolant did not even throw a code.
