At 8800 miles, the MIL light activated. Was told the SCR Catalytic converter was the problem and would be replaced under warranty. It is on back order. There is a Technical Service Bulletin warning of possible failures and instructing dealers to replace the item. John A Howard

John I have had this problem since Sept and this week I was told after my 7 th trip to the shop they would have to order a new SCR catalytic converter .

14500 km or 9010 miles . What is the upgrade to the converter ? And do you know why so many originals failed .

Thank you , William.

They referred to this back order as the "new converter," but it may be, that the failed converter was also the new converter - I don't know if this back order is an upgrade. I think that Bosch is the entity that supplies the SCR. I saw that Chrysler had selected Tenneco to supply SCRs for some its larger trucks. My research also indicates that Urea can degrade very quickly under high temperatures - which is apparently why some owners have elected to carry no more than 50% in order to replenish fresh Urea more frequently. The TSB suggest that only a small percentage of owners will experience a problem - but again, I don't know the answer to your question. John

Very interesting . I e mailed Blue Def ; I had corresponded with them in Sept regarding their product and they answered then by saying it was possibly the SCR that was at fault .

My question to them this time was how long did the product last ?

Do you know if Mercedes owners have the same problems ?

Thank you ,

William.

I do not know if Mercedes owners have a similar concern. Of Course, at one point Chrysler had a relationship with Mercedes and I understand the Jeep has some Mercedes technology incorporated into the design. I seem to remember reading Mercedes had supplied Audi with SCR technology for its diesels.

How long is the back order?; I have no clue. My assumption is that the converter is probably working near spec, but not enough to keep the MIL from being activated. I am not going to worry about it for the short term. I am going to buy the Chrysler Extended warranty (7yr/85K) tomorrow. I'll take her in for an oil change in the next month or so, and will poke the issue. JAH Sr

I waited the six weeks..... not months. This is what I was told and this is what it took. And I had a vehicle for the day it took to change it. The only inconvenience so far has been the trip to the dealer to drop the vehicle off. To date not a penny out of pocket. Perhaps it's the dealership...... maybe that's the difference. My dealership Planet Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Franklin, MA has stood by me and I would highly recommend them. Would I recommend this vehicle to anyone else....... not unless they were looking for a tow vehicle for a trailer under 5000 pounds. I mean seriously..... what else is out there.

I had my Converter changed at 15669 km Mar 15 2015.

My km reading now is 17901 .....so far so good . And hope to do a long trip in Aug but rcsimon has me worried !

Today I had the occasion to speak with a woman parked next to me at Costco.

She was driving a new [ 6 months old Tourag ] I asked her had she had problems with her VW with regards to DEF .

No and it seems the dealer on her last service put BLUE-DEF in the DEF tank .

I was cautioned yesterday whilst at my JEEP dealer not to use other than MOPAR so my two jugs will have

to go to recycle . It does not keep . We are in the middle of an heat wave 32 c 100 f ?

So I asked what about the DEF in the cars tank , a shoulder shrug was the reply .

I have half a tank and plan on doing a long trip in Aug .

Hopefully it works out .

Now at 19400 km.

Al.
