Since day one I am experiencing loud clunking from the right front side shock area on the new Summit. In normal ride mode this can happen when crossing a smooth rail road track mound at about thirty MPH. In higher mode one and two it can happen when simply crawling over a speed bump. Wham like a sledge hammer.

Dealer changed the right front shock a couple of months ago and now states the loud banging sound is normal on the Summit.

It literally sounds like something is coming apart. You can't even drive this thing on semi smooth airport grass at ten MPH without hearing pow, pow, pow pow as you're rolling.

Any others experience this?

I've never had this problem.

I suggest if this is an issue on your car that you fill out the complaint form on the NHTSA website. Two dealers really don't care to address this issue.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration vehicle complaint form:

File a Vehicle Safety Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

This is a comment from another Forum and I agree with him:

"You should take it to the dealer…they won’t do anything and tell you it’s normal, but it’s not. The noise you hear is the shock limiting out internally, not the airbag rebounding. It creates a “hammer” that will cause premature mechanical and electrical problems as well as body rattles. It will definitely crack or break shock and frame mounts if you use that mode very much. At about 10,000 miles it can cause the suspension cross arm bolts to loosen and allow the front end out of alignment. This could have resulted in a deadly crash. Their solution was to grease the bolts so the impact would not cause them to loosen as easily.

This is a terrible design that Jeep is aware of and expects us to accept. Had they demonstrated this flaw at the point of sale, I would have purchased something else. Hopefully, if enough people express strong dissatisfaction they will design a fix."
