Has anybody seen the Infotainment UConnect 8.4 Upgrade? Apparently 2014-18 GC's can be retrofitted.

Wondering if anyone - or anyone else that they know - has performed this upgrade and if any repercussions (ie. mileage degradation, adverse impacts) resulted. Would rather find some testimonials before I guinea pig it myself.

I know there is some additional wiring needed if you have heated/vented seats & steering wheel. I'm hoping that's the only type of co-dependency that would exist between the UConnect system and engine performance. But I fear that's a naive thought on my part.

Wow, $1,600.00 plus installation for the upgrade? Am I reading this correctly and what do you get for the money other than another whistle and bell?

Personally I never wanted to be a pioneer. My father always said that the easiest way to identify a pioneer, because they would be the ones with arrows in their backs!

Hah- my 2016 GC Summit already has a bunch of stuff that I will never use or even need. The older I get I find that I am moving from a former "high tech" lifestyle, then drifting to a "low tech" existence and my goal is to find a preferred "no tech" lifestyle. All of that stuff is just something else to repair. Good luck with your decision and let us know how it works out...K

Yeah I admit I'm not rushing to get this one done...namely because I don't need it. I barely use the built in navigation system. I'm generally a look-at-the-map-and-remember-it driver. That said, the self-installation looks easy enough which is why I'm interested in the challenge.

I'm not the biggest car guy. So taking this on probably satisfies some inner need to prove some kind of accomplishment. It's either this or one of those GDE tuning upgrades; which sounds easy enough from reviews but the notion of doing it scares the crap out of me until I read up some more on it.

Definitely would be more comfortable if I had seen couple of reviews from others that have done the UConnect upgrade.

You offer an interesting proposition with a UConnect 8.4 upgrade for the GC. I have seen these screens and it is pretty "trick" to say the least. Definitely higher end graphics and expanded functionality. For me its really not an option since I have a 8 year 120K mile extended warranty... besides my Jeep is only used as an extra vehicle. These vehicles are so electronic and computerize I would be concerned to alter existing wiring, technology and connectivity. Best of luck with your decision...K

I have done this upgrade on my 14 JGCED Overland. They will buy back your stock unit for $400 if in good condition (at least they did a few months ago when I purchased). Make sure you get the retrofit cable if you have a 14 or 15 with heated/vented seats and heated steering wheel.

I love using Apple CarPlay so this was a worthwhile purchase for me. I love that it works flawlessly as if it had been stock.

Also have done GDE Hot Tune and Trans Tune. Also highly recommended.

I am a novice in both the vehicle electronics and mechanics so was apprehensive about all of these upgrades. But, all went smoothly and I have been extremely satisfied with the outcome.

Makes it easier to keep my eyes off of a new Jeep. Ha!
