Well friends I've been holding off on updates. Jeep Care center abandoned me and the 3 agent and 2nd manger had moved own so my case got dropped into yet another either, this was back in February. Needless to say I finally had to cut my losses while the GC was still running "OK" and just to have a clear conscience brought it to Carmax to vs. just unloading it on some poor unsuspecting buyer. They verified it was "OK" dinged me for having had the transmission already replaced but still made a very fair offer. I moved on vowing never to buy another Chrysler vehicle and now 4500 miles into a BMW X5d, what a difference, I kid you not when I say you cannot tell it is a diesel, the only time you smell anything remotely like it is when you are at the pump filling it up.

Keep up the good fight but don't have much faith in Chrysler and the STAR repair folks at "headquarters" it's clearly a duct-tape-and-bubblegum approach and no one should be treated like most are here... truly sad. Good luck friends and stay safe.

Purchased GC Overland diesel Feb, 2014. Loved the vehicle and used is hard until 2 weeks ago when (at 21,000 miles) I was beset by the same series of issues (DEF) that have plagued many forum members. I was on the road, called the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and which has performed all service. They said they couldn't help me even if I got it there as they were too busy, scheduling 3 weeks out. But...I should get it to a dealer asap...gee thanks. I did find a dealer close to where I happened to be. Though they too were busy, they arranged a rental and sent me on my way promising to have it fixed when I came back through 5 days later. They installed a new DEF pump and I went on my way. 1 week later check engine light and same DEF message. I again called my dealership and was told they couldn't/wouldn't help me...thanks again. I took it back to the dealership that replaced the DEF pump (well over an hour out of my way) and they again arranged a rental and promised they would get to the bottom of the problem and get it fixed. Yesterday, they installed a new computer per Chrysler protocol but apparently upon test drive realized this did not solve the problem. New CAT now on order, to be delivered and installed tomorrow(keeping my fingers crossed).

In the meantime I had a conversation with the service manager at my dealership. He frankly admitted that they simply don't have the capacity to keep up with service demand. Only 2 of his 26 technicians are diesel certified, and given the number of issues with the 2014 diesels they are totally backed up. This is the top selling dealership in Colorado. Jeeps of all shapes and sizes are 'selling like hot cakes" and though a whole new service facility has been promised, so far, nothing. SO if you live in greater Denver, good luck getting your issues addressed in a timely fashion. Thank God for the friendly small town dealer with the diesel tech and rental agency on site. Oh and my extended service contract.

If the new cat does not permanently solve the problem, I too will bail on Jeep. If I'm going to pay a luxury price, I might as well get luxury service. Sure will miss that torque and off-road capability.

If it's the dealer off of Havana in East Denver steer clear, they had mine for nearly 30 days, (I picked it up 5 times during that period and had problems before getting off the lot even, Mgmt wouldn't even reply to my calls or emails) They will never get my business again.

As most of you know, DEF fluid is highly sensitive. It has to be stored at a certain temperature and it has an expiration date. Not knowing these facts, I called my local Jeep dealer Service department and they said I could buy DE from any auto parts store. I took their word for it since the manual doesn't say anything about using only MOPAWR brand fluid.

I filled the tank about halftone and it ran about 500 miles without issue. I bought more PEAK brand DEF filling the tank about 3/4 full. After about a week, I got an error saying "Bad DEF Fluid, see dealer immediately." Apparently if the fluid is bad, the car won't restart after a couple hundred miles.

Turns out the message was misleading and there was nothing wrong. The car just had to be driven for about 50 miles to cycle through and clear the message. Given the sensitivity of the fluid and the potential thousands in dollars in damages bad fluid can cause, I'll be going to the dealer to have them top it off. It's just not worth saving $100 or whatever and take the chance of causing a larger proble,m.

I hope that helps.

I've been considering a new Ram with this Ecodiesel engine, but all these posts have made me change my mind. I currently own a Ram with the Hemi and love it, but was considering upgrading. Now I'll stay far away from that engine and hearing how Chrysler treats its customers, I'll likely stay far away from Chrysler in the future too.

After our cat was replaced...NO issues at all. Well over 30k miles, finished a 3300 mile trip, towing over 6k pounds from south FL to northern Il. All ran perfect and averaged 15MPG.

+1 for the dealer off Havana. I called after seeing an ad online, and verified the "final price" was with freight and handling included, they said yes taxes were the only thing added and to come in. I came in, and then when I notified them I also wanted the 0% for 60mo, all the sudden the online price was "the price to buy it AFTER you lease it". I told them it was a classic bait-and-switch..walked out and reported them to CPA and BBB. Hmmm....a few days later now the prices have all gone up on their site. I didn't press them to sell it at that price as I didn't want to do business with that kind of dealership and then have service issues that they wouldn't help with.

Like you, I prefer to let the dealer take care of all the maintenance. I do so with all my vehicles, even my tractor, at least until the warranty has expired. With the JGC I purchased the extended warranty & oil change package as a precaution. Once that expires, I'll take care of almost everything myself. I have wondered if the def issues also fall under the drivetrain coverage?

Change your mind again. The diesel is awesome. There was a problem with the Catalytic Converter. All new models get the new one and all existing models get upgraded as soon as a problem appears. I think most of the issues have been related to bad dealer service. I've had 2 great dealers and have 18 months and 32,000 miles on my GC diesel and think it's the best vehicle I've ever owned.... By far.

I am a happy camper. I let the dealer do all maintenance and it has cost me $220.00 to date. For that I have gotten 2 oil changes, Def, an air filter, 2 cats, all updates and an extended 7/100 warranty . I lost the use of the vehicle for the total of 5. days over 20 months.
I love my 4X2 Limited with Tow. $38,000/ 36 months to pay ---- zero interest.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I do acknowledge the frustrations, including my own, of the first wave of owners who had to fumble through the Jeep maze of confusion before the fix was found.

Just to share my experience FWIW... Bought the JGC ED in March. The VA dealer delivered it with a full tank of DEF. Topped the DEF tank, in June with about 5k miles, at a Flying J in KY bulk pump dispenser for $2.79/gal. A FL dealer accomplished an oil service and tire rotation at about 8k miles. Oil service was one of four in four years provided free by MOPAR to reimburse the dealer. No DEF or related fuel issues encountered to date. Guess I'm lucky so far.

Manual states "do not" top it off (due to shelf life). Best to use it down and refill it to keep it fresh.

Not yet.

I'm getting the run-around with my JGC diesel... It's been at the dealership for 4-weeks and hasn't moved as no-one has looked at it. Anyone have any luck with a good dealer in the Houston, TX area?
There are no good Chrysler dealerships on the west side of town(if there are any at all). I purchased mine from Allen Samuels on I-10 and they couldn't even get the CEL to go off and just sent me on my way saying that if it starts flashing to park it and have it towed back...

Don't get me started on Ryan Chrysler in Sealy...

If you're in the West Houston/Katy area, then I suggest you steer clear of these two Dealerships.

FYI - Chrysler re-released the CAT replacement TSB yesterday (9/24) as 18-064-15. Same replacement part number for the CAT, but no testing of the DEF injectors or tank as with the procedure in 18-045-14. Also, it is now officially an RRT (15-093). So at least that's some more formal acknowledgement that it is an issue that likely affects all 2014s. Not a full blown recall, but you should be able to get a replacement quicker without haggling with the dealer. Probably worth having them check your VIN for eligibility next time you're in the shop.

thanks for posting this information. I have been having problems with my 2014 - in and out of shops several times before just recently the folks at Wilder Auto Center in Port Angeles, Washington, finally decided that my SCR system needed to be replaced (after I contacted Jeep directly and opened a case). this was Wilder's first experience with this repair. they were very good to work with. I have driven the jeep about 100 miles since getting it back and so far no problems. upon picking it up I immediately drove for an hour at highway speed to break in the new SCR and this was after the service tech performed a "force Regen" so the SCR was well "burnt in". hope this cures my MIL light problem. I do love driving this vehicle. where do you find these TSB's ?

Thanks for the info. Just had my CAT and injector replaced today, so hopefully I am good to go now.
